Lake Macatawa Real Estate

Lake Mactawa is a lake in Holland Michigan, in Ottawa County. The lake itself is about 6 miles long and about 1.2 miles wide at its largest point, making the lake about 1,700 acres. While the lake does vary in depth, most of the lake is only about 10 feet deep, but there is a navigation channel that allows for deep draft ship and yacht access from Lake Macatawa to Lake Michigan! The lake itself spans through three different municipalities (Park Township, City of Holland, and Holland Township). While there a number of smaller inlets, there are two main bays on the lake that are of meaningful size, Pine Creek Bay followed by Big Bay to the west. Past Big Bay, Lake Macatawa then discharges into Lake Michigan through a channel by Holland State Park.

Around the east end of Lake Macatawa, there is more commercial space and docks, but as you move to the west you quickly encounter a lakeshore that is inundated with high-income residential development and neighborhoods. The only major exception to this is the Holland State Park, which borders both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa on the north west side of Lake Macatawa.

If you're thinking about, or planning on, moving to Lake Macatawa, you'll be pleased to know that there are a variety of options available. You'll find everything from waterfront condos to quaint walkable neighborhoods with cottages, to sprawling waterfront mansions - all of which are minutes from Holland's downtown. If city life is not for you, there are still plenty of sprawling rural retreats available that are withing minutes of Lake Macatawa access.
