Living in South Haven

Overview

South Haven is a city in West Michigan that is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and the mouth of the Black River. Most of the city is in Van Buren County, although a small portion of it does extend into Allegan County. As the western terminus of the Kal-Haven trail, the city is popular with cyclists in the summer and snowmobilers during the winter months.

Orignially settled as a port city, the town has a long history of a life connected to water and waterfront life.

Living in South Haven

South Haven is a true waterfront community! With much of the city within walking distance to Lake Michigan, residents can oftern be found taking advantage of the many public beaches, boating on lake michigan, or kayaking and canoeing on the Black River. Popular with visitors during the summer, the downtown offers a number of waterfront dining opportunities as well as a large number of boutique stores. Home of the Michigan Maritime Museum and the 'Friends of Goodwill' tall ship, history and boating enthusiasts alike are drawn from all over. Being a popular vacation desitnation for people from all over the midwest, South Haven offers many opportunities for those looking for vacation homes or rental opportunities as well! With it's incredible beaches and shoreline view, South Haven is popular for amazing waterfront and lakefront  homes and cottages.

Education in South Haven

South Haven School district consists of 5 schools. Three elementary options, a middle school, and the highschool offering k-12 education. There are additionally a couple of private school options in St. Paul Lutheran School and St. Basil Catholic School and pre-school. There are no colleges or universities in South Haven, but there are a number of options within an hour or so, including Grand Valley State University, Kalamazoo College, Western Michigan University, Calvin University, and Hope College
